An office that is completely open is not always practical; distractions are common in almost every working environment, especially in busy offices with a large number of employees.
Conversations between colleagues and telephones ringing can cause employees to lose concentration and focus, that’s why most workplaces require some form of privacy, whether it’s for a meeting/conference or simply making a private telephone call.
By installing office partitions to divide up the space you could help to minimise distractions and help your staff to focus.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that each employee should have their own private office, that would be impractical, what I am saying is for a more practicable solution, compromise by introducing just a few individual offices and/or meeting rooms.
Office partitions are an ideal way of separating space and creating individual offices/rooms. They can be erected in almost any office space to produce the type of layout to suit your needs. They offer flexibility to generate new rooms in workplaces without the need to modify existing fixtures, or build solid walls, which would be an issue if you were only leasing the premises.
There are many different types of office partitions that can be used as part of an office fit out to divide up a space. The best and most cost effective in my opinion would be floor to ceiling varieties made from re-locatable partitions. Not only are they robust, but they are relatively easy to install and can be taken down and reinstalled at a later date.
Organisations change and adapt over time, growth or downsizing can mean that your current office design no longer suits your needs.
If re-locatable partitions have been used in the original design, whether they are made of solid material or glass will mean that the layout of your office can be changed in line with your organisations needs.
So as to get the most from your office space planning, choosing the right partitions must be done very carefully, they must be the right style and finish, and with so many to choose from it’s hard to know where to start. The material you choose would depend on what you want to use the room for.
In my opinion a glass partition wall is the ideal choice for meeting rooms, as glass can give a sense of space and will allow in light. Glass also allows you to see when the room is in use without having to knock and enter. However, for health and safety reasons glazed systems need to have some form of manifestation to highlight that the glass is actually there!
Manifestation can be used as an opportunity for advertising or branding, as part of a wider office refurbishment - this can be in the form of a pattern or a company logo. Blinds can also be added to the partition for added privacy.
Alternatively, I think plasterboard partitions are ideal to divide up space for kitchen or breakout areas, additional acoustic properties can also be added to the material to dampen noise in these high traffic areas.
I think you’ll agree, office partitions provide many advantages, they are not only beneficial in minimising distractions, they provide space and add to the aesthetics of the office. As mentioned previously there is huge scope in terms of design when using office partitions, they are ideal for creating: an individual office, meeting rooms, computer rooms, kitchens and breakout areas, the list is endless.
Regardless of what material you choose, it can be certain that the new fixture will improve the look and feel of your office environment.
