Artificial grass is becoming an increasingly popular choice for home owners. It looks just like real grass when it is laid but requires very little or no maintenance in comparison with real grass. It is perfect for people who cannot manage to use a lawnmower due to old age or a disability, for people who don’t have time for gardening or for people who don’t want the hassle of having to maintain a garden but still want to enjoy their garden. Artificial grass is very carefully designed to look just like real grass and you can get many different colour tones for a very natural look. It is very hard to tell good quality artificial grass apart from real grass.

The installation of artificial grass will require a number of stages. First you are likely to have an unhealthy lawn that needs removing, this will be cut up and removed. Then aggregate will be laid to the lawn area to firm the base and provide drainage. This is then compacted down using a vibrating plate. A timber frame or cement frame is then created around the edge of where the artificial grass will be laid to secure it in place. The area will then be covered with builder’s sand and compacted down to further assist with drainage and to create a level surface for the grass to be laid on. A permeable anti-weed membrane is then laid on top of the sand to help stop weeds growing. Finally the artificial grass is laid, cut to size and secured to the edging. It is glued into place to secure it down. Your new lawn will never need to be watered, suffer from dry patches, moss and weeds or ever need to be mown. It is so easy that it just looks after itself.

If you do get any weeds growing these will need removing by hand and you may wish to brush or rake your artificial grass from time to time, especially in autumn when it could get covered in leaves and other garden debris. Most companies that supply artificial grass will offer a warranty that covers the product against fading or damage for a number of years.
